Italy – Meeting of Catechists and Councillors of the Salesian Province of Lombardy-Emilia

(ANS – Nave) – 31 March 2026 was not merely a day of professional development; it saw catechists and councillors from the Salesian Province of Lombardy-Emilia (ILE) gather at the Salesian house in Nave. Rather, it was the expression of a strong and courageous decision by the leadership: to step away from the daily routine of teaching for a whole day, in order to train the ‘key figures within the system’. A decision that highlights the centrality of shared responsibility as the only possible driving force for a school that still wishes to call itself authentically Salesian. The day began with a welcome from the ILE Provincial, Fr Roberto dal Molin, who also paid tribute to Fr Riva, the recently deceased director of the house in Chiari, and to a young student who had been the victim of a road accident. This was followed by the presentation of the new configuration of the house in Nave: no longer a formation house, but a “Shared House” where, from next September, a community of Salesians (SDB), a community of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA) and a family will live together. The day continued with training sessions on educational accompaniment, highlighting the role of the Educational Pastoral Community (CEP) as a central figure. The importance of creating welcoming environments in which educators and students can grow also emerged. The work continued with a presentation by Mr Dutto, who provided an update, with expertise and practical wisdom, on the policy regarding the protection of minors and vulnerable adults. The afternoon concluded with the presentation of the “Decalogue for a Generative CCEP” by Fr Elio Cesari. Educators and leaders finally analysed strengths and critical issues, convinced that the one true question capable of unlocking any discussion is simply: “What do our young people need most?”.
