The book by Nicola Bottiglieri, “Magellan and Don Bosco Around the World: The Memory of Places” (LDC 2019), continues its journey around the world following its Spanish translation (Magallanes y Don Bosco alrededor del mundo. La memoria de los lugares โ Ediciones Don Bosco, Argentina 2021). Now, it is also available in English (Paperback โ January 21, 2025).
This translation ensures that the English-speaking world, both within and beyond the Salesian community, does not miss out on this intriguing narrative of “three journeys around the world”:
- The voyage of Magellan, the great navigator and the first European to sail the Pacific Ocean.
- The dreamlike journey of Don Bosco, who sent his missionaries to the “ends of the earth.”
- The authorโs journey, tracing how the landfalls of Spanish ships coincided with locations where Salesian houses were later established.
Despite the cultural and temporal differences separating these figures, Bottiglieriโs narrative weaves three interconnected paths in a remarkable way.
